Insectoid Beings

Insectoid Beings are a broadly-reported class of hyperspace entity distinguished by a body plan and cognitive character that borrow strongly from Earth's insects and arthropods — chitinous exoskeletons, multiple limbs, compound eyes, mandibles, and (crucially) a kind of hive-oriented, distributed intelligence that the ordinary Western sense of individual mind struggles to accommodate. The category is broader than the specifically-named Mantis Beings the codex already lists: it includes ant-, wasp-, bee-, beetle-, and non-terrestrial insect-like presences.

Insectoids are among the most-reported non-humanoid entity classes in high-dose DMT experience, in psilocybin at heroic doses, and in the alien-abduction and contactee literature more generally. Rick Strassman's DMT research participants encountered insectoid figures often enough that Strassman devoted specific attention to them in DMT: The Spirit Molecule. The DMT-Nexus and PsychonautWiki both catalogue Insectoids as a distinct entity category alongside Machine Elves, Mantis Beings, and Alien Grays.

The reported phenomenology has a distinctive character. Unlike Machine Elves (who are typically playful and welcoming) or Mantis Beings (who are typically presented as surgeons or examiners), Insectoids are more often reported as deeply alien — not hostile, but operating on scales of time, decision-making, and value that the individual visitor is very much not the reference frame of. Communications tend to be described as arriving from a whole rather than a specific being: an entire hive addressing the visitor, or the visitor briefly becoming part of the hive's cognition. Sensations of thousands of tiny presences moving over or through the visitor's field of awareness are frequently reported.

A range of interpretations circulates in the experiencer community: that Insectoids are the visionary echoes of the extremely ancient evolutionary lineage from which our own arthropod-heavy ecosystems derive; that they are non-terrestrial intelligences whose native cognition really is hive-organised; that they are archetypal images of collective mind and lineage; or that the specific frightening-alien-alliance quality of the encounter reveals something about the visitor's own relationship to their species and their body.
